New Normal

Growing up there are always stories of people that have these (Ahhhaaaa Moments or Epiphanies) and it changes life for them forever. I believe this is true, but it has been my experience that there are multiple moments that have shifted my mindset and changed my life as I knew it.

It’s not a matter of “if” this is going to happen for you it’s simply “when” we live in the age of technology which means that we have access to information with the click of a button. The question you have to ask yourself is this: Are you willing to hear the information and change your mind?

“That’s the way it has always been done” You know this quote you have heard it said with your ears, you have read it with your eyes, and I am fairly certain you have said it with your voice. We all have, and while I will agree that I have believed it when I said it… It didn’t make it so. We have to understand that when things are done a certain way it’s because that way worked for whomever passed that down to you or decided it was a good way to do something. They made that assumption based on the knowledge and experience they had and I am sure that it was proficient at one time… life is different and is continuing to change daily.

Here we are living in this “pandemic” and things we didn’t think were possible are suddenly the norm… Gyms were forced to close and this has brought more attention to the at home workout era. At home workouts have been around for a very long time, but now these are becoming more and more popular and mainstream media is shedding so much light on this. What a booming business to be in. 🙂

Uber Eats, Grub hub, meal delivery places, grocery pick up, live streaming, and video calling, working from home, face timing with doctors, and the list goes on…

EDUCATION- Wheeeeeeeewwwwwwwww Welcome to normalizing online learning, and shedding light on homeschooling, and tools for success. This is a huge change!

We as a people have been forced to “change” our mindset from a “That’s the way it’s always been done” to a let’s brainstorm – how can we make this work? Companies that were against working from home are now understanding that a job doesn’t have to mean sitting in a cubical for 8 hours a day. Parents and teachers, along with law makers across the globe are realizing that education doesn’t have to mean sitting at a desk for 7 plus hours.

We as a people are learning that when given the opportunity to grow and learn we will and more than that we can! I am seeing so much good come from this horrible pandemic. I know there is a lot of bad too and I am not taking anything away from that, but look at the strides we as a people have made in short amount of time. A few months to brainstorm and quickly adapt to technology and understanding that life can happen.

I pray that as things continue that we as a people come to the grasp that our country needs to change some things! Change some policies! Listen to new ideas and get rid of the “That’s how it’s always been done mentality”
I pray that as a people we all understand that we should be given access to health and education no matter our financials!

I hope that as a people we realize that NO ONE should be profiting off of people being sick!

I pray that the law makers realize that teachers and administrative staff at schools want to be able to teach kids and inspire kids instead of teaching them how to take a standardized test!

I pray that this forces the our lawmakers to look at minimum wage and change it! Why is it that “necessary” jobs like: grocery store employees, gas station attendants, fast food restaurants, anyone in the medical field, janitors, postal workers, factory workers and so on (Blue collar workers) are being praised for being hero’s, but in the same breath being paid the lowest amount possible… There are CEO’s of big name stores making record profits, and they are buying employees shirts that say “hero” maybe instead of that shirt – PAY THEM MORE MONEY!! People in those jobs shouldn’t be struggling to pay bills because our country (pre-pandemic) viewed them as low wage jobs… It’s ridiculous.

We can’t change the world around us, but we can change our mindset and how we treat others (I know bla bla bla)
It’s very true though – understand that just because something has always been done a certain way doesn’t mean there isn’t a better more efficient way to do things now.

Start with you – Make a small change today: Maybe drink 20 ounces of water, take a 10 minute walk, send a “thinking of you” card, read a chapter in a book. The point is to start with something manageable that you can feel good about.
